Following a decision to not pursue an undergraduate degree, Ray Mirra Jr. enrolled at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. However, he soon realized that he wanted to be practical rather than voracious about academic knowledge. In 1947, 20-year-old Raymond Mirra Jr. graduated from high school in Blackwood and joined the U.S. Navy, where he studied medicine in order to serve his country during WWII. After retiring from the navy, Raymond became a pharmacist. 

In 1953, this Philadelphia native earned his PharmD and opened his own business on the Main Line. He later also opened several pharmacies in New Jersey and Delaware before retiring to Florida for good in 1982.This led him to join the staff of the Press Club on South Broad Street where he was able to network with other successful local pharmacists and bring them together to establish the Pharmaceutical Association of Philadelphia.

Raymond’s love for the pharmacy business led him to pursue a degree in pharmacy technology. After graduating, he worked as a technician at various retail stores and pharmacies, as well as opening up his own pharmacy known as Mirra Pharmacy Incorporated.He discovered that he enjoyed the practical aspects of running a business much more than being stuck behind a desk learning about prescription drugs.

Raymond Mirra Jr was a brilliant young pharmacist, who attended Temple and Rutgers University.He made the decision to enroll at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy instead. Raymond Mirra quickly realised, nonetheless, that he preferred working in the pharmacy industry practically to studying about it in a book. After struggling to understand what the future held for him, Ray Mirra Philadelphia turned to working in pharmacies. He graduated from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and immediately began working at a local pharmacy.

After graduating high school in Blackwood, NJ, Ray Mirra Jr. refused the offers to join Temple and Rutgers University. Instead, he chose to matriculate at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy where he quickly understood that he preferred working in the pharmacy business rather than book learning about it in the classroom.
